No Shave November on Quests: let it grow for cancer awareness
Let your facial hair grow this November. Check in each day, compare progress with friends and use the new look to start a conversation about cancer awareness.
What is No Shave November?
No Shave November turns a change in grooming into a conversation about cancer awareness. The campaign began in 2009 in memory of Matthew Hill, who died of colon cancer. Its tradition connects growing hair with awareness of the hair people can lose during cancer treatment and support for the cause.
On Quests, let your facial hair grow throughout November. Anyone can take part. Progress photos are optional.
How it works
Join the No Shave November Quest, let your facial hair grow and check in once a day. A starting photo can be useful if you'd like to compare your progress at the end.
Tidying edges is fine. Make any grooming changes you need for comfort, hygiene, work or safety. If you shave or miss a check-in, you can return and continue from there.
The event runs from November 1 at 12:00 a.m. through November 30 at 11:59 p.m., New York time.
What the month looks like
The journey includes 17 scheduled messages combining practical tips, research notes and milestones. You'll find ways to ease itchy new growth, take useful progress photos, and start conversations about cancer awareness and screening.
Along the way, campaign history and unexpected facts add variety. Check in daily, share photos if you want to, and encourage the people doing it with you. Milestones help you notice the changes through the month and reflect on what taking part has meant for you and your community.
A conversation that matters
Some of the journey's research notes focus on colorectal cancer. Screening can find precancerous polyps so they can be removed. In the United States, the USPSTF recommends screening for average-risk adults ages 45 to 75. People with symptoms, a family history or other risk factors should ask a clinician about appropriate care.
If someone asks about your new look, tell them why you're taking part. A simple conversation can become a useful reminder to ask about screening or book a check-up.
