Calculate a challenge completion rate by dividing completed scheduled opportunities by scheduled opportunities that have already passed. Keep confirmed misses and unknown records separate. The calculator below shows how much of the plan is confirmed complete and how missing information affects the possible result.
Use this for your own written group agreement. Quests points, streaks and leaderboards follow the app's rules. These calculations do not change your app record.
Calculate your completed round
Count only opportunities due by the end of the period you are reviewing. Exclude future dates and days that were never scheduled. The example starts with five opportunities, three completions and one confirmed miss.
The calculator processes these numbers in your browser. It sends no entries to Quests, stores no entries, and reads no app data. Reloading restores the example. The written examples also work with a pen and paper.
Work through the example
Suppose you scheduled five reading sessions and know that you completed three and missed one. The fifth has no reliable record. Three divided by five is 60%, so 60% of the plan is confirmed complete. One opportunity remains unknown.
If the unknown session was missed, final completion stays at 60%. If it was completed, the result becomes four divided by five, or 80%. The possible range is therefore 60% to 80%. This range describes missing information. It is not a statistical confidence interval or a prediction of future behavior.
Unknown = scheduled due - completed - confirmed missed Confirmed completion = completed / scheduled due x 100 Possible upper completion = (completed + unknown) / scheduled due x 100 Record coverage = (completed + confirmed missed) / scheduled due x 100
In this example, record coverage is four out of five, or 80%. The record is sufficient to discuss a next step even while one session remains unknown. If you discover what happened, update the corresponding count and calculate again.
Handle the edge cases
- No opportunities due: report no rate. A zero-opportunity period has no denominator.
- All records unknown: confirmed completion is 0%, with a possible range from 0% to 100%. The actual completion rate is unresolved.
- Planned rest: exclude it from scheduled opportunities when the agreement was made that way.
- A changed plan: record the change date and review the old and new periods separately. Keep the original agreed opportunities visible.
- An invalid total: completed plus confirmed missed must fit within scheduled opportunities. Correct the counts before interpreting a rate.
Compare group totals carefully
Imagine Ari completed four of five scheduled sessions and Jo completed three of three, with no unknowns. Their individual rates are 80% and 100%. The group completed seven of eight opportunities, or 87.5%.
Averaging the two personal percentages gives 90%. That gives each person equal weight. The pooled 87.5% gives each scheduled opportunity equal weight. State which question you are answering, and keep personal targets visible. These methods can produce different numbers from the same records.
Use the fair scoring guide to agree on the format before the challenge. A completion percentage describes this plan; it does not measure effort, ability or the size of a person's goal.
Use the result to choose a next step
If the plan keeps colliding with the same commitments, use the baseline worksheet to identify a workable time slot. If records are frequently missing, agree on a simpler update with the check-in prompts.
Take the counts into a weekly review and choose one practical adjustment. Keep explanations and personal details voluntary. For shared app challenges, start with your first Quest guide.
